Hymn #1

Hymn #2

Preparing yourself for the study of God’s Word

Before we begin, only if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (that is; you have believed [trusted] in Him for His promised gift of eternal life) John 3:16, John 6:47 as a few examples; it is very important to prepare yourself to learn God's Word so the Holy Spirit can teach you as to what your reading or hearing is true or false. To be taught by the Holy Spirit you must be filled with the Holy Spirit which means abiding in Christ. To place yourself in fellowship with God the Holy Spirit [also called abiding in the Christ], take a moment to simply name, cite or acknowledge [confess] your known unconfessed sins privately to God (i.e.; with your thoughts directed only to God the Father). Why? Because you cannot grow spiritually if you’re not abiding in Christ [in fellowship with Him] when you take in bible truth.

1 John 1:9, says: “If we confess [meaning to simply name, cite or acknowledge to God the Father] our sins [known unconfessed sins], He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins [known sins] and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness [all unknown and forgotten sins];” NKJV (New King James Version); we call this REBOUND; read the full doctrine as to “why” we need to use 1 John 1:9 to grow spiritually. Left click the following link to learn more and fully understand the doctrine of Rebound; which answers the question, why do I need to keep confessing my sins all the time? REBOUND

If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior (that is, believed in Him for eternal life), the issue for you is not to name your sins to God; the issue for you is to believe by faith alone in Jesus, The Christ alone for eternal life [salvation] and you will be saved [receive Eternal Life] the very micro second you believe in Him:

John 6:47 says: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” NKJV

Notice again what John 6:47 says, “he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” It doesn’t say, “will have”; it says, “has.” Therefore, the very moment you believe Jesus Christ’s promise of everlasting life, you have it (it’s really just that simple), and it can never be lost or taken away from you (John 10:28-29). Furthermore, the gift of everlasting life (also called eternal life in scripture) is available to every human being; there are absolutely no exceptions.

John 3:14-18 says: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness [Num 21:4-9], even so must the Son of Man be lifted up [the cross], that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” NKJV

Let us now bow our hearts and take a moment to prepare for learning God’s Word, if there is any known sin in your life, this is the time to just cite it privately to God the Father with your thoughts directed towards Him. With your head bowed and your eyes closed, you have total privacy in your mind and soul:

These notes are more designed to follow along during the sermon and to bring up the “hover pop-up scripture references;” if just hover doesn’t work, do a “control-left-click,” if that doesn’t work then look them up in your Bible) when the Pastor asks everyone to turn to that passage in their bibles.

Internet Church Service – July 31, 2022; Gifts Of The Holy Spirit Alluring Facts I Bet You Never Knew – What’s The Purpose Of Spiritual Gifts.

Point 7. The gifts of Identification.

So, here’s what all churches have with their temporary spiritual gifts:

a. These consisted of Apostles.

b. Prophets: gift of both meaning: 1. Foretelling - temporary; permanent.

Next there are Apostles which as you know are Temporary gifts, necessary until the canon was incomplete in order to carry the church through those difficult days. The gift of absolute spiritual dictatorship was set aside with the completed canon of scripture, the canon now being the absolute authority.

So, here’s what all the temporary churches have:

a. Apostles

b. Prophets: gift of both: 1. Foretelling - temporary;

c. Forthtelling— permanent.

d. Teachers: Permanent.

e) Miracles: Temporary (Person’s faith not involved)

f) Healings: Temporary (person’s faith not involved.

g. Then there are the following type of gifts.

h. Physiological;

i. Mental;

j. Demon induced illness.

k. Helps: Permanent — gift of administration.

l. Governments:

m. Diversities of tongues: Temporary — gift of speaking a foreign language not previously known (not ecstatic).

Next, we have spiritual gifts in the Corinthian Church. It is obvious from 1CO 1:7 that the Corinthian church abounded in spiritual gifts and they had spectacular gifts and many of them. It is also obvious from the rest of the Epistle that this was one of the most carnal churches that ever assembled in the name of the Lord. These Corinthians were noted for their envy, jealousy, childishness, spiritual bullying, litigation, divorce, drunkenness, and other carnality activity.

1Co 12:14-17, For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not {a part} of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less {a part} of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not {a part} of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less {a part} of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?”

1Co 12:21, And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

1Co 12:26-27, And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if {one} member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it.

1Co 12:30-31, All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

1Co 13:2-10, And if I have {the gift of} prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed {the poor,} and if I deliver my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, {and} is not jealous; love does not brag {and} is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong {suffered,} does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if {there are gifts of} prophecy, they will be done away; if {there are} tongues, they will cease; if {there is} knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.

Conclusion: The possession of a spiritual gift does not mean spirituality.

Principle: If the Corinthians, with all their carnality could have more people with spectacular spiritual gifts, then there is definitely no correlation between possessing a certain type of spiritual gift and spirituality. It is important to distinguish between spiritual gifts and spirituality; a spiritual gift, for its proper function, depends upon spirituality, but they are not the same. False teaching based on legalism and emotionalism had infiltrated the church at Corinth.

One of the abuses in the Corinthians church was that there were many people speaking in tongues and they felt that they were the spiritual giants in the assembly. They were looking down there spiritual noses at the rest and saying that until they spoke in tongues they were not spiritual, or possibly not even saved.

Brother foot has an inferiority complex; brother hand has a superiority complex. Both were are ignorant of doctrine. They are both in the same team but play different positions. One is not better than the other. The spiritual gift you possess is not the important factor, but the filling of the Holy Spirit, the power on which the spiritual gift operates.

Point 8. Spiritual Gifts: Healings, Miracles, Faith as Temporary Spiritual Gifts.

The purpose of healing and miracles was to call attention to the message given by the person. It was their credit card, establishing the authority of the Word taught by the individual. The purpose was not just to alleviate human suffering.

9. Deals with Healings: The ability to heal at will. The recipient’s faith was not required either — Ac 19:11-12. This is a unique one. Paul’s gift of healing was withdrawn once his authority was established among the churches. For example: Timothy’s illness and Paul’s own illness. Notice that the apostle Paul said in Ac 19:12 that handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out. Or in 2Co 12:7-10, Paul said And because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I entreated the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

The issue is not healing but “my grace is sufficient for thee.” Paul was unable to heal Epaphroditus, who was dying — 2Ti 4:20. And so Paul had to leave Miletus sick.

In Php 2:25-30, But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need; because he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. Therefore, I have sent him all the more eagerly in order that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned {about you.} Therefore, receive him in the Lord with all joy, and hold men like him in high regard; because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was deficient in your service to me.

2Ti 4:19-20, Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. Erastus remained at Corinth, but Trophimus I left sick at Miletus.

God still heals today but the gift is not in operation. It is the sovereign decision of God. As a part of Miracles, the apostle Paul said that he had the ability to perform miracles at will. Miracles and healing do occasionally occur in the Church-age (Sovereign division of God) but this is not the objective in the Church-age because for the first time we have something greater than any miracles: the completed canon of scripture. One line from the Word of God is worth all the miracles that have ever been performed. The Word of God in your life must be more important than anything else.

Point 10. There is the gift of Faith: Faith to remove mountains, 1Co 13:2.

Don’t confuse faith as it existed (temporary gift) and faith as used now in a perceptive way. It was a companion to the gifts of healings, miracles. It is Peter healing the lame man.

Ac 3:6-8, But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene walk!” And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. And with a leap, he stood upright and {began} to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

Point 11. Spiritual Gifts that came in two categories.

a. Permanent: Those which still operate today in the post-canon period of the Church Age.

b. Temporary: Those which operated only in the pre-canon period of the Church Age.

Point 12. Permanent Gifts that Include supernatural manifestations.

a) Pastor-teaching: Gift with the most authority today.

b) Evangelist.

c) Exhortation (Teaching type).

d) Teacher.

e) Government — administration in the church.

f) Helps.

g) Ministering — Service in the little things.

h) Word of Knowledge: Ability to categorize doctrine.

i) Word of wisdom: The ability to apply doctrine to circumstances in life and to give this to others.

j) Counselling.

Point 13. Temporary Gifts with divine authority and manifestations of divine omnipotence or power.

a. Apostle.

b. Prophecy.

c. Knowledge.

d. Discerning spirits.

e. Healings.

f. Miracles.

g. Faith (Companion to healings, miracles)

h. Tongues.

i. Interpretation of tongues.

Point 14. Spiritual gifts that are listed in order of merit: 1Co 12:28-30.

1CO 12:8-10, For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another {various} kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

1Co 12:14-31, For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not {a part} of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less {a part} of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not {a part} of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less {a part} of the body. the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.

And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now there are many members, but one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if {one} member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, {various} kinds of tongues. All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not {workers of} miracles, are they? All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.

Like any other subject in the word of God, there are always some other individuals that appear as hypocrites and remind us of the false teachers who are around today. For example, let’s take the Pharisees. I have chosen are at least seven of them that illustrate this principle. They are found in my teachings of the Pharisees that is in my word and are great descriptions of Funny Pharisees.

1. For example, there is the “Shoulder Pharisee”, so-called because he wore his good deeds upon his shoulder and paraded the good that he did. This is the individual that when he prayed he would put ashes upon his head so that everyone would know how spiritual he was.

2. Then there was the “Procrastinating Pharisee” who knew “what” he should be doing but he could always come up with a spiritual reason or a Bible verse to put off doing something good. He always had excuses, but they sounded very pious and godly and religious. He used such phrases like “if the Lord wills,” or “the Lord willing” etc.

3. There was the Bruised and Bleeding Pharisee who thought it was a sin to look at a woman and therefore, whenever women were around he would bend over and close his eyes and he kept running into walls. And according to the Pharisees, the more bruises you had from walls, the more holy you were.

4. There was the Hump-back Tumbling Pharisee, He was called that because he wanted to demonstrate his humility and so he slouched way over and bent his back and walked around all day in that so-called humble position. He was called that because he wanted to demonstrate his humility and so he slouched way over and bent his back and walked around all day in that so-called humble position. He thought it was wrong to lift his feet so he shuffled his feet and he kept tripping on things and tumbling over.

5. He thought it was wrong to lift his feet so he shuffled his feet and he kept tripping on things and tumbling over. So he was called the hump-back tumbling Pharisee. He kept count of all of his good deeds so that he'd know what God owed him in terms of blessing.

6. There was the ever reckoning Pharisee who kept count of all of his good deeds so that he'd know what God owed him in terms of blessing. He did what he did because he was scared to death of going to hell and therefore was the “Ever-Reckoning Pharisee” who kept count of all of his good deeds so that he'd know what God owed him in terms of blessing.

7. And then there was the “Fearing Pharisee” who did what he did because he was scared to death of going to hell and being judged.

8. And then there was the “God-Respecting Pharisee who did what he did because he thought it was right to do it, and he had integrity to some extent. The “God-Fearing Pharisee” did what he did because he was scared to death of going to hell and being judged.
