Preparing yourself for the study of God’s Word

Before we begin, only if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (that is; you have believed [trusted] in Him for His promised gift of eternal life) John 3:16, John 6:47 as a few examples; it is very important to prepare yourself to learn God's Word so the Holy Spirit can teach you as to what your reading or hearing is true or false. To be taught by the Holy Spirit you must be filled with the Holy Spirit which means abiding in Christ. To place yourself in fellowship with God the Holy Spirit [also called abiding in the Christ], take a moment to simply name, cite or acknowledge [confess] your known unconfessed sins privately to God (i.e.; with your thoughts directed only to God the Father). Why? Because you cannot grow spiritually if you’re not abiding in Christ [in fellowship with Him] when you take in bible truth.

1 John 1:9, says: “If we confess [meaning to simply name, cite or acknowledge to God the Father] our sins [known unconfessed sins], He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins [known sins] and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness [all unknown and forgotten sins];” NKJV (New King James Version); we call this REBOUND; read the full doctrine as to “why” we need to use 1 John 1:9 to grow spiritually. Left click the following link to learn more and fully understand the doctrine of Rebound; which answers the question, why do I need to keep confessing my sins all the time? REBOUND

If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God, the promised Messiah, as your Savior (that is, believed in Him for eternal life), the issue for you is not to name your sins; the issue for you is to simply exercise faith alone in Jesus Christ alone eternal life; when you do, you will instantly receive Eternal Life: John 3:16, 5:24, 6:47, 20:30, 31.

John 6:47 says: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life." NKJV

Notice again what Jesus said in John 6:47: "…he who believes in Me (Jesus Christ) has everlasting life." It doesn't say, "will have"; it says, "has." Therefore, the very moment you believe in Jesus Christ for His promise of everlasting life, you have it (it's really just that simple; nothing more and nothing less), and it can never be taken away from you (John 10:28-29). Furthermore, the gift (Ephesians 2:8c) of everlasting life (also called eternal life in scripture) is available to every human being; there are absolutely no exceptions.

John 3:14-15, 16, 17, 18, says: "14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." NKJV

Let us now bow our hearts and take a moment to prepare for worship and learning God's Word. If there is any known sin in your life, this is the time to just cite it privately to God the Father with your thoughts directed towards Him. With your head bowed and your eyes closed, you have total privacy in your mind and soul:

Study to show yourself approved to God!

STUDY TITLE:

Glorification of our Lord’s Humanity is the Ascension and Session!

Ac 1:1-8, The first account I composed, Theophilus (friend of God), about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over {a period of} forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God. And gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” {He said,} “you heard of or from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” And so when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;

Then the challenge.

Ac 1:8, but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.

Then notice the next verse says in Ac 1:9, And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

Notice, here is where your ascension and descension and session are about to be mentioned and supplied. Then the first step of our LORD’s descension in Christianity follows the first turn of the eye from our Lord Jesus; the Author and Finisher of faith.

Ac 1:9, And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. This lifting up is a reference to our LORD’s ascension into heaven following HIS resurrection and HIS position at the right hand of the Father for when HE arrived into Heaven HE heard those magical words: “Sit down at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

This is quoted in PSA 110:1; it is quoted in the Gospels, Mat 22:44; Mk 12:36; Lk 20:42; It is quoted in Ac 2:34-35; Heb 10-14.

Waiting from that time onward until HIS enemies were made a footstool for HIS feet. For by one offering He has brought to completion for all time those who are sanctified.

The session is the doctrine of Christology that pertains to the glorification of our LORD’s humanity at the right hand of the Father. For when our LORD received the title that He did to sit down at right hand of GOD, HE was in ultimate glory of everything HE ever imagined.

Ac 1:10, And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was departing, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them;

They stood there with their eyes gazing intently looking into the sky as “two angels dressed in a white apparel” were joining them looking as an angelic host of armies as this beautiful sight before them.

Ac 1:11, and they also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

Notice that in this passage the Lord is identified as “this same Jesus”, Jesus is the title of HIS humanity. It was the humanity of Christ which ascended: “which is taken from you [ascension] into heaven, and also shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” In verse 12, they were standing on the Mount of Olives looking up. Jesus will be returning to the same place Zec 14:4.

The Ascension and Session.

The Session is that doctrine of Christology pertaining to the glorification of our Lord’s humanity at the right hand of the Father. If the Lord Jesus Christ remained on earth, He would have had a limited glory. But when He went to the third Heaven He became superior to all creation, and therefore He received unlimited glory. As a result of the resurrection of our Lord’s humanity, He remained on earth for forty days before He ascended into Heaven. The ascension of Jesus Christ occurred on day forty in His resurrection body. This period of time demonstrated the capabilities of the resurrection body.

For example, in Ac 1:1-3, The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over {a period of} forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

So, the Ascension and Session of Christ are predicated on the capabilities of the resurrection body. It can travel horizontally and vertically at unlimited speed, and is capable of unlimited space travel. Upon arrival in the third heaven, our Lord was seated at the right hand of God the Father; this is the doctrine of the Session. Then He received His third royal title “King of kings, Lord of lords, the Bright Morning Star.” It was at this time that the human race was elevated higher than the entire angelic creation. Remember, originally man was created higher than the animal creation and lower than the angels. This is why David wrote in Psa 8:1-9, O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Thy name in all the earth, Who hast displayed Thy splendor above the heavens. From the mouth of infants and nursing babes Thou hast established strength, Because of Thine adversaries, to make the enemy and the revengeful cease.

When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; What is man, that Thou dost take thought of him? And the son of man, that Thou dost care for him?

Yet Thou hast made him a little lower than [nor God, but the gods, a reference to angels], And dost crown him with glory and majesty. Thou dost make him to rule over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, The birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Thy name in all the earth.

When our Lord arrived in heaven in His hypostatic union, as a member of the human race, He was rewarded by God the Father for His strategic victory in the angelic conflict. And He was given a brand new title for this strategic victory. That brand title that He did not possess before He became a member of the human race is the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the bright and morning star. This was His third royal title. His first two are the Son of God and the Son of David. Now, because His third royal title had no accompanying royal family, the Church-age was inserted for the calling out [ekklesia] of a royal family.

Now look at Heb 2:7-8, “Thou hast made him for a little while lower than the angels; Thou hast crowned him with glory and honor, And hast appointed him over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet.”

That’s a quotation from Psa 8:5-6.

However, notice what is added in Heb 2:7, “Thou hast made him for a little while lower than the angels; Only for a little while. David never said that. Because Old Testament Saints were not elevated higher than angels. They were not in union with Christ like New Testament Saints are.

Heb 2:8-10, Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. “For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. But we do see Him who has been made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.

So, because of our union with Christ and because of the Ascension and Session of Jesus Christ, who is seated at the right hand of God; we are raised up with Him, and seated with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus (Eph 2:6). That’s why Heb 1:3-11 says, And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent title than they. For to which of the angels did He ever say, “Thou art My Son, Today I have begotten Thee”? And again, “I will be a Father to Him And He shall be a Son to Me”? And when He again brings the first born into the world, He says, “And let all the angels of God worship Him.” And of the angels He says, “Who makes His angels winds, And His ministers a flame of fire.” But of the Son He says, “Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever, And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Thy God, hath anointed Thee With the oil of gladness above Thy companions.” And, “Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the works of Thy hands; They will perish, but Thou remains; And they all will become old as a garment, And as a mantle Thou wilt roll them up; As a garment they will also be changed. But Thou art the same, And Thy years will not come to an end.” But to which of the angels has He ever said, “Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies A footstool for Thy feet”?

God the Father never said this to any angel, only to Jesus Christ. It is very significant that God the Father said this to the humanity of Christ in a resurrection body. This means that although we are now inferior to angels in our human bodies on earth, in the future in resurrection bodies we will be totally superior to angels. This was established with our Lord’s session. All of this is why this doctrine of ascension and session is the missing link between the resurrection of Christ and the Christian way of life.

So, we are now inferior to angels in our human bodies on earth, in the future in resurrection bodies we will be totally superior to angels. Something new had to be created to accompany this new third royalty of Jesus Christ, a new royal family.

2Co 5:17, Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

The Day of Pentecost is the day the royal family began with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the first day of the Church Age.

The Chronology of events:

1) Resurrection.

2) Forty days on the earth.

3) Ascension ten days before the Church-age began.

4) Seated at the right hand of the Father.

We know the number of days exactly, because the resurrection occurred on the Feast of the First Fruits. The Feast of Pentecost would occur fifty days later. On day forty, our Lord ascended, and He said the baptism of the Spirit and the beginning of the Church-age would occur very soon (ten days later).

So, these two doctrines of ascension and session combine to form the climax of the strategic victory of Christ in the Angelic Conflict. While the angels were still talking, our Lord was already in the third heaven. After His ascension, His session fulfilled the prophecy of Psa 110:1, “The Lord [God the Father] said to my Lord [God the Son], Sit down at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” Jesus Christ had to be seated to resolve the Angelic Conflict. It was His humanity that was seated at the right hand of the Father. This prophecy is quoted a number of times in the New Testament, Mat 22:44; Mk 12:36; Luk 20:42-43; Ac 2:34-35; Heb 1:13, 10:13. It is quoted so often because it is very important.

Just as only the humanity of Christ could provide our salvation by receiving the judgment for our sins in His own body, so only the humanity of Christ could be resurrected, ascend, and sit at the right hand of God the Father. The humanity of Jesus Christ in Hypostatic Union is now exalted and glorified at the right hand of the Father where His posture is one of being seated.

Ac 2:32-36, “This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses. Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: “The Lord said to my Lord,” Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet. Therefore, let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ this Jesus whom you crucified.”

Phil 2:9, “Therefore also, God has highly exalted Him and given Him a title which is above every title, that at the title of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father.”

So, the ascension and session is not only related to the Hypostatic Union, but it also to the angelic conflict.

1Pe 3:22, “Who [Jesus Christ] is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven after angels and authorities and powers had been subordinated to Him.”

With the resurrection of Jesus Christ, all angelic creatures including fallen angels, are subordinated to Him in His humanity. In His deity, Jesus Christ is the creator of angels. In His humanity, He was made lower than angels, Heb 2:7. But now in His resurrection, He is higher than angels in His humanity. And some day in our resurrection body, we will share that same privilege experientially.

Being in union with Christ, we are already positionally higher than angels. But in resurrection bodies, we will be experientially and physically higher than angels. Eph 1:22, “And He [God the Father] has subordinated all [angelic creatures] under His feet. Furthermore, He appointed Him [Jesus Christ] ruler over all things to the Church.”

Hymn #1

Hymn #2

REBOUND

If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior (that is, believed in Him for eternal life), the issue for you is not to name your sins to God; the issue for you is to believe by faith alone in Jesus, The Christ alone for eternal life [salvation] and you will be saved [receive Eternal Life] the very micro second you believe in Him:

John 6:47 says: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” NKJV

Notice again what John 6:47 says, “he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” It doesn’t say, “will have”; it says, “has.” Therefore, the very moment you believe Jesus Christ’s promise of everlasting life, you have it (it’s really just that simple), and it can never be lost or taken away from you (John 10:28-29). Furthermore, the gift of everlasting life (also called eternal life in scripture) is available to every human being; there are absolutely no exceptions.

John 3:14-18 says: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness [Num 21:4-9], even so must the Son of Man be lifted up [the cross], that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” NKJV

Let us now bow our hearts and take a moment to prepare for learning God’s Word, if there is any known sin in your life, this is the time to just cite it privately to God the Father with your thoughts directed towards Him. With your head bowed and your eyes closed, you have total privacy in your mind and soul:

Internet Church Service a October 31, 2021; Believers like the Corinthians, fail to take advantage of their relationship with our Lord.

John 15 – expecting the Lord to reveal some of the principles that are often ignored or rejected because of believers who have no desire to know the Real Truth,

It is Truth that is so vital for all of us to cherish and to honor and to obey as our Lord said throughout the Word of God.

There are some real biblical analogies between what our Lord said to Joshua and the Jewish people and what He said to His disciples and the future church-age believers.

The nation of Israel is a picture of the soul and human spirit of believers in the Church-age.

There are lots of typology that goes into certain passages and subjects and give us a much clearer vision of what the Lord is saying to all of us as believers of the Church-age.

Some of the spiritual principles that existed in the past when our Lord challenged Joshua and the Jewish people to go forward to the promise land just as our Lord challengers and promises us to do the same.

Look at the truth behind all these passages in the “Word of God” concerning the calling of God and His guidance and direction to Joshua and the Jews; Jos 1:5-9.

One of the first promises that our Lord made to His people; “No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life.”

All those who attack us will not be able to stand before us if we respond back to their pettiness and do not react against them at all.

Jos 1:5 – our Lord reminds Joshua and the Jews that the divine protection that Moses had from Jehovah is the same divine protection that our Lord has for all of us; Acts 10:34.

This divine protection that they have was not “because of them” but “in spite” of them; Rom 11:5-6. Believers like the Corinthians, fail to take advantage of their relationship with our Lord.

One of my favorite verses in the book of Joshua (Yehowshuwa`) which means “Jehovah is our help”, or “Jehovah is the Savior, the deliverer.

Tamiym — We must serve the Lord with honesty and integrity with no strings attached and without any hypocrisy, and not for personal gain as the apostle Peter wrote; 1Pe 5:2.

1Pe 5:2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to {the will of} God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;

1. The command to honor and respect the Lord; Jos 24:14; Psa 56:4-10.

2. The importance of submitting to the Divine Authority that our Lord promised us and also to serve our Lord in sincerity and truth or proper motivation.

Believers in the Church-age, this refers to our Lord delivering us from the cosmic system and its citizens.

Jos 24:15 – our Lord brings up the importance of our free will decisions and our ability to choose the choices that the Lord has set before us.

One of the reasons why it is so important for the Apostles to learn about Truth is that Truth was the main issue when our Lord was sent to Pilate.

Pilate was the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea, and he was known for being an honest and upright politician, even though it is an oxymoron.

Stay in the Gospel of John as much as possible and listen to our Mentor, God the Holy Spirit, and what He has to say as He leads us and guide us on the road to spiritual victories.

Jn 18:38 Pilate said to our Lord Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no guilt in Him.

1. What was the main difference between our Lord’s ministry and Moses’ ministry?

2. The difference is found and answered in Jn 1:17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

One of the most vital passages on the subject of Truth is found in Jn 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Jn 8:32 and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Written Word = Bible

Living Word = The Spiritual Life

“Will they follow the Word of God or will they be deceived by the god of this world, known as Satan or the Devil, who has been a liar from the beginning; Jn 8:44.

1. “You are of your father the devil”

2. “You want to do the desires of your father”

3. He was a murderer from the beginning;

4. He does not stand in truth;

5. He has no truth in him;

6. He speaks lies from his own demonic nature;

7. He is a liar;

8. He is the father of lies.

Whether or not you believe that the passage in Jn 15 is a true story or a parable, it doesn’t really matter, what really matters is the message.

Vinedresser = God the Father

Vine = The Lord Jesus Christ.

Branches = believers of the Church-age.

“in me” = Indwelling of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The first one deals with the doctrine of Divine Discipline when our Lord said “Every branch [believer] in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away;

This “taken away” is done by our Lord because He loves us and because He does, Divine Discipline is one of the only ways that God can get our attention at certain times.

He starts us out with what is called “Warning Discipline” every now and then to get our attention before we dig a hole to deep even for us to get out of.

1. Warning Discipline

2. He disciplines the carnal believer just as much as

3. He disciplines the mature believer.

He loves the carnal believer just as much as He loves the mature believer.

One of the main principles that our Lord is emphasizing to His Apostles the importance of relationships and intimacy.

Relationships with intimacy = know that Christ indwells us and because He does we should treat one another as we would want others to treat us; Mat 25:40; Luk 6:31.

If we are ever going to have any godly relationships in this life or godly friendships, then we must truly believe and apply passages like; 2Co 5:16.

2Co 5:16 Therefore from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.

Jn 15:2 “Every branch [referring to every believer] in Me [The Lord Jesus Christ] that does not bear fruit, He [God the Father] takes away; and every branch [believer] that bears fruit, He [God the Father] prunes it, that it may bear more fruit.

Throughout this passage the apostle John uses the vine, the vinedresser, and the branches as a metaphor to represent the relationship of the believer with the Lord Jesus Christ.

We have the vine and the branches used as a metaphor to represent the unity between the Lord Jesus Christ and the Church-age believer.

Vine = the Lord Jesus Christ.

Branch = believers of the Church-age.

Vinedresser = God the Father.

Vinedresser metaphor – refers to God the Father as the author of the Predesigned Plan of God = with emphasis on the plan that God the Father created for every Church-age believer.

Vine Metaphor = refers to the humanity of Jesus Christ during the dispensation of the Hypostatic Union with focus in on the servant-hood of our Lord.

As a branch, the branch metaphor refers to the believer who is the basis for the production of divine good or fruit-bearing.

Greek martures — someone who is willing to give their life to something or for someone.

Vine metaphor also emphasizes the fact that all precedence and all production of divine good in the Church-age comes from the vine – our Lord Jesus Christ.

“in me” is a reference to the believer in Union with the Lord Jesus Christ; Col 1:27; Joh 14:20.

“Dead branches” representing dead works on the part of the believer or the production skills minus spiritual skills.

“Production skills minus spiritual skills” — we know what we should be doing as far as our production skills are concerned, but the average believer lacks the spiritual skills needed to fulfill the production skills.

These Doctrines Are:

1. The Two Power Options.

2. The Three Spiritual Skills.

3. The Four Spiritual Mechanics.

The first one mentioned are the Two Power Options.

The “Two Power Options” are being filled with the Spirit and the power of the word of God; Eph 5:18; Heb 4:12.

The filling of the Holy Spirit is the first power option and the first spiritual skill in the spiritual life; Eph 5:18.

Without the filling of the Spirit we do not have the power to live the Christian way of life.

Don’t forget that the filling of the Spirit converts human I.Q. into spiritual I.Q., so that we have equality to learn spiritual phenomena as taught in 1Co 2.

The third spiritual skill is the problem-solving devices deployed on the FLOT line of the soul also known as the Forward line of troops which is a military acronym.

Four Spiritual Mechanics – the filling of the Holy Spirit (PSD [Problem Solving Divice] #1 & 2), metabolized Bible doctrine (MD=metabolized doctrine) circulating in the soul (10 PSD=problem solving devices), the execution of the PPOG [predesigned plan of God].

“dead branches” — dead works on the part of the believer or the production skills minus spiritual skills which means that we produce human good with human power.

The branches that are called “live branches” represent the ability of the believer who knows that divine good only results from living by using the spiritual skills.

Question: What are the spiritual skills? The spiritual skills refer to what the branch “in me” that does not bear fruit refers to the believer who does not produce divine good.

Two categories of branches referred to as “dead” branches” or “alive branches” or better yet, loser believers and winner believers.

1Jo 2:28 “To shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.”

It is this phrase “do not shrink away from Him in shame or embarrassment” – aischunomai which means to be embarrassed; to feel shame; to be ashamed.

It means guilty because of one’s actions, characteristics, or associations — saying things like “you should be ashamed of yourself.”

Amazing Facts about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We are looking at the promises of God to those believers who desire to glorify the Lord. Those believers are also willing to follow the directions of the Lord.

1Co 14:40, But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner or let all things be done in order.

Let’s begin in Ac 1:1-8, The first account I composed, Theophilus [Dr. Luke], about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up [ascension] after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.

To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over {a period of} forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

And gathering them together [the early church], He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” {He said,} “you heard of or from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” [This is the prophecy of the coming of the Baptism of Fire that John the Baptist was to reveal to the new church]. And so when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” [Is this going to be the time of the restoration of the Kingdom of Israel when God would bring in the Millenniual Kingdom for the Jews?] He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs [time period] which the Father has fixed by His own authority; [Or the time of the Kingdom of God to be set up and the place of the dispensations but really it is none of their business] but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

The word for witness is the Greek noun martures which where we get the English noun martyr from, meaning witness, one willing to give his life for someone or something.

Ac 1:9, And after He had said these things, He was lifted up and while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

Notice, here is where your ascension and descension and session are all about to be mentioned and supplied. The Cross is the sinner’s hope, the believer’s comfort, and the backslider’s rebound and recovery. The first step of descension in Christianity follows the first turn of our eye from our Lord Jesus; the Author and Finisher of faith. A life of holiness can only spring from a life of faith. The joy of the Lord, and in the Lord, is our only true and legitimate strength.

Neh 8:10, …For the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Ac 1:9, And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

This lifting up is a reference to our LORD’s ascension into heaven following His resurrection and His position at the right hand of the Father. When He arrived in Heaven He heard those words from the father: “Sit down at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

This quotation is a reference to the Doctrine of the Session.

The Ascension is the doctrine of Christology that pertains to the transfer of our Lord’s true humanity from planet earth to the third heaven in a resurrection body. When our Lord received the title that He did, which was to sit down at right hand of God the Father, He was in ultimate glory of everything He ever imagined.

Ac 1:10-12, And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was departing, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them; and they also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

These men or angels had been sent to reveal to the Apostles the truth of what was before them?

Ac 1:13, And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying; that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James {the son} of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas {the son} of James.

Ac 1:14-17, These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with {the} women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. And at this time Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren (a gathering of about one hundred and twenty persons was there together), and said, “Brethren, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. For he was counted among us, and received his portion in this ministry.”

Notice that in this passage the Lord is identified as “this same Jesus” — Jesus is the title of His humanity. It was the humanity of Christ that Ascended.

In verse 12, they were standing on the Mount of Olives looking up. Jesus will be returning to the same place, says Zec 14:4.

The Church-age is the period when Christ is absent from the earth. Everything that Jesus wants us to know we have in the Word of God. 2Co 2:16 says the Word of God is the mind of Christ. And the Word of God contains our instructions during His absence.

There is a list of the people present, there’s the eleven Apostles. This however would be a great mistake they were about to make. They thought they had the right, the power and the authority to do such a thing, namely choose someone to replace Judas Iscariot.

Only God has the authority to choose who would be an Apostle, a Prophet, An Evangelist, a Pastor-Teacher. This was not open for discussion. These are the individuals God used to protect members of the human race from worshipping the wrong blessings of God.

First, the Apostle is given to reveal the one in authority who lets us all know divinely inspired Scripture is the ultimate authority of the Word of God.

Secondly, the Prophets were given to establish the ones who had a little less of the authority that the Apostle Paul had but not quite the same authority as an Apostle.

Thirdly, the Evangelists whose role was to present the Gospel to the unbeliever the gospel message.

Finally, there were the Pastor-Teachers who must operate in such a way that the Pastor has authority over all the believers and equipped them all for the work of the ministry.

Ac 1:16-17, “Brethren, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. For he was counted among us, and received his portion in this ministry.”

Peter is mentioned first because his leadership is obvious.

Thomas is mentioned, even though he failed 40 days before in the matter of the resurrection. This did not keep him from being on the roster of Apostles. To each of these is given Apostleship, the gift of absolute dictatorship for the next 50 years or so while the Church is being established.

Now, there were supposed to be 12 Apostles. So, someone had to take the place of Judas and the question was who was going to be the replacement. This is a sovereign choice of God the Holy Spirit, according to 1Co 12:11. It is the ministry of the Holy Spirit to appoint spiritual gifts.

The twelfth one is not even saved yet. Saul, later known as Paul, and for five more years he will not be saved, but there is going to be an attempt to elect another as replacement.

Notice a few important principles. in Ac 11:14, “These all continued with one accord.” This means they were in harmony with one another and were all in fellowship with God. Yet in spite of that of that they got involved in a fantastic decision because it doesn’t depend upon the filling of the Spirit or their walk with the Lord, it depends upon their knowledge of doctrine. So, there is an area of sin into which people fall through ignorance of Bible doctrine but they can recover if they choose to.

Ac 1:15-17, And at this time Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren (a gathering of about one hundred and twenty persons was there together) and said [who else but Peter makes the big mistake], “Brethren, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. For he was counted among us, and received his portion in this ministry.”

In verse 17, when Peter says, “For he was numbered with us.” This is a foreshadowing of what we have today. Always among born again believers there are a certain number of unbelievers numbered with them, identified as Christians though many times they are not, because they have not accepted Christ as Savior.

Now, in verse 17, Peter is assuming that certain individuals were a part of this ministry” and identifies Judas to be one of those twelve. But, in reality no one knows who is saved and who is not.

Ac 1:18, Now this man (Judas Iscariot), acquired a field with the price of his wickedness; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out.

Ac 1:19, And it became known to all who were living in Jerusalem; so that in their own language that field was called the Field of Blood.

Why?

Because in Ac 1:20-22, “For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his homestead be made desolate, And let no man dwell in it’; and, ‘His office let another man take.’ It is therefore necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us beginning with the baptism of John, until the day that He was taken up from us one of these should become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

Ac 1:24-2:4, And they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, “Thou, Lord, who knows the hearts of all men, show which one of these two Thou hast chosen to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent, rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

Ac 2:5-15, Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because they were each one hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and marveled, saying, “Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.” And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others were mocking and saying, “They are full of sweet wine.” But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea, and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give heed to my words. For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:

Ac 2:17-24, “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams; Even upon My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit And they shall prophesy. And I will grant wonders in the sky above, And signs on the earth beneath, Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come. And it shall be, that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know This Man, delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. And God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

Ac 2:25-35, “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were “For David says of Him, ‘I was always beholding the Lord in my presence; For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. ‘Therefore, my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; Moreover my flesh also will abide in hope; Because Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Hades, Nor allow Thy Holy One to undergo decay. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; Thou wilt make me full of gladness with Thy presence.’ “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. And so, because he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants upon his throne, he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay. This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses. Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord,” Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.”’

Hymn #1

Hymn #2

Internet Church Service a October 24, 2021; Trying to run away from our problems is the coward’s way out.

1Co 13:13 “But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

The Corinthians had everything going for them, yet as a church, they were implacable and impossible to satisfy, no matter what the Lord was willing to do for them.

Corinthian church — involved with sins, evil, sexual immorality, religion, gossip, judging, divisions, stealing, division, Christians suing each other in court, chaos during the worship assembly, and the misuse of spiritual gifts.

1. We are to “come” or “gather” together with people not machines or “not a make believe world” with shades drawn — and lights dimmed, — Elijah syndrome; Heb 10:25-26.

Trying to run away from our problems is the coward’s way out.

Trying to deny that we have problems.

Trying to blame others for your own mistakes.

Heb 10:25 we are NOT to forsake the assembling of ourselves together.

1. Our first point basically deals with the “coming” or “gathering” together with other believers; Heb 10:25-26.

2. We come together “as” a church not “in” the church.

Your body is the sacred building or the temple of the Lord.

Gen 2:24 “For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”

Becoming one flesh = the sexual relationship that takes place between the man and the woman when both parties are connected together by the apparatus or the equipment that our Lord provided.

You cannot have divisions or factions without heresies or false doctrines being taught as they were being taught in the Corinthian church.

One thing that should characterize the Lord’s table is unity among believers.

Paul is actually saying in this verse that it is impossible to eat the Lord’s supper when there are divisions among you.

“given thanks” is the verb eucharisteo which is where we get the phrase the eucharist, or “giving thanks for grace.”

Our Lord broke the bread Himself, not the Father, the Holy Spirit, the Romans, the gentiles, and definitely not the Jews, our Lord is the only one who laid down His life Himself; John 10:17-18.

Our Lord is the one who gave His life, He chose Himself to be broken for our sins.

“this is My body,” = the pres-act-ind [present-active-indicative] of the verb eimi which is the verb of absolute status quo, and therefore it should be translated…..this keeps on being my body.

This is very important for you to understand because these were His words to the disciples just before His death.

He takes the bread and says, “this keeps on being My body” …and what should that do for the disciples?

He is going to die physically but He will rise from the dead and the physical body that they saw mutilated and destroyed will keep on being His body even after His death.

Our Lord Jesus Christ is God, was God, and will always be God but through resurrection, He will keep on being humanity forever.

The verb translated “keep on doing this” is a pres-act-imp [present-active-imperative] of the verb poieo which means to do, perform, execute.

The present tense is what is known as linear aktionsart (kind of action) = speaks of certain points of time when the Lord’s supper is to be celebrated.

We are to habitually have certain points of time that are set aside to bring to remembrance the death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prin – It is a sin not to celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

“in remembrance of Me,” because the “Communion Table or the Lord’s Supper” has a purpose.

The purpose of the bread is to bring to your memory the uniqueness of the person of Christ.

“Why do we need a commandment to bring to remembrance the unique person of Christ?”

You sat down and began to think of how unique TLJC is and then you began to focus on such doctrines as the Hypostatic Union.

He is unique.

There is no one like him in the universe.

There never will be.

The celebration of the Lord’s supper is for you to focus your attention on the unique one of the universe, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The bread refers to the Person of Christ.

The cup refers to the Work of Christ.

The person of Christ had to remain impeccable first, in order for the work of Christ to propitiate or satisfy God the Father.

Mat 20:22 “are you able to drink from the cup that I am about to drink”?

Mat 26:39 He said, My Father if it is possible, let this cup pass from me;

Eating and drinking are used to illustrate the non-meritorious system of perception = Faith.

Prin – The communion table is designed so that our thinking will orient to grace.

The communion table is a time to remind ourselves that Christ did all the work and we did not earn or deserve a thing.

Another purpose of communion is to announce and proclaim our Lord’s deaths.

|

We are to do this “until He comes” which is an aorist tense and it points to the point of time called the Rapture of the Church.

Because the Lord’s table or the eucharist is for the church, the body of Christ, only.

The next purpose of the communion table is restoration to fellowship; 1Co 11:27.

What does it mean to eat and drink in an unworthy manner?

It means to be out of fellowship or not being filled with the Spirit during the communion celebration.

1. The first purpose of the Lord’s Table is unity among believers.

2. The purpose of the bread which is to bring to your memory the uniqueness of the “person” of Christ.

3. The purpose of the cup which refers to the uniqueness of the “Work” of Christ.

4. The communion table is designed so that our thinking will orient to grace.

5. The fifth purpose for celebrating the Lord’s table is to announce and proclaim His death.

6. The sixth purpose for celebrating the Lord’s table that the Lord’s table or the eucharist is for the church, the body of Christ, only!

7. The seventh purpose for celebrating the Lord’s table is restoration to fellowship.

8.The eighth purpose for celebrating the Lord’s table is to fellowship with one another because we are to know no man or woman after the flesh; 2Co 5:16.

Hymn #3

The following link is to a good-news message describing how one can receive eternal life: Ticket to Heaven, it was written for anyone not absolutely certain about of their eternal future.
