Preparing yourself for the study of God’s Word

Before we begin, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (that is— you have trusted in Him for eternal life), it is important to prepare yourself to take-in God’s Word or participating in a Communion Service, so take a moment to name, cite or acknowledge your sins privately directly to God the Father. This will assure that you are in fellowship with God the Father and the Holy Spirit’s convicting ministry, also called the convincing ministry will then be able to teach you as the Holy Spirit is the real teacher and the pastor’s message is the vehicle the Holy Spirit uses to convince you what you are learning is true or not.

1 John 1:9 says—“If we confess [simply name, cite or acknowledge to God the Father] our sins [known sins], He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins [known sins] and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness [all unknown and forgotten sins].” NKJV (New King James Version)

If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior (that is, believed in Him for eternal life), the issue for you is not to name your sins to God; the issue for you is to believe by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life and you will be saved the very second you believe in Him:

John 6:47 says: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” NKJV

Notice again what John 6:47 says, “he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” It doesn’t say, “will have”; it says, “has.” Therefore, the very moment you believe Jesus Christ’s promise of everlasting life, you have it (it’s really just that simple), and it can never be lost or taken away from you (John 10:28-29). Furthermore, the gift of everlasting life (also called eternal life in scripture) is available to every human being; there are absolutely no exceptions.

John 3:14-18 says: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” NKJV

Let us now bow our hearts and take a moment to prepare for learning God’s Word, if there is any known sin in your life, this is the time to just cite it privately to God the Father with your thoughts directed towards Him. With your head bowed and your eyes closed, you have total privacy in your mind and soul:

NOTES
Unlike the bible study, these notes are not just for reading without watching the video. These notes are more designed to follow along during the sermon and to bring up the “hover pop-up scripture references” (some websites may require to left click the link, if that doesn’t work then look them up in your Bible) when the Pastor asks everyone to turn to that passage in their bibles.

Dispensation of the Mosaic Law. The Law of Love.

Jam 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law, according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.
Category one love is the believer’s capacity to love God and to respond to God’s love based on Bible doctrine in his soul.

The command to have category one love is found in such passages concerning the giving of the Law and the Ten Commandments as in Deut 6:5, 10:12, 11:13.

All this means that is apart from the daily function of perception, metabolization and application of Bible doctrine, it is impossible to love God!

The number #1 principle that defines the Law and the commandments is that all believers are commanded to love God in Mar 12:30 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.”

If Bible doctrine or the words of Christ are not abiding in you, you do not have love for God, this is according to John 5:38-42.

“hears” is the pres-act-ind of akouo which is akouei meaning to hear in an audience, to listen, to concentrate, to understand, to learn, to give a hearing.
Not only will you hear doctrine but “if you love the Lord” you will keep His doctrines, John 14:15.

“keep” is the aor-act-imp of tereo which is teresate which means to guard something that belongs to you. It also means to watch over carefully, to keep, to hold, to preserve and to pay attention to, therefore to retain!

If you guard or keep God’s Word in you, God’s love will be in you, John 15:10.

Having God’s mind or Bible doctrine is that which produces God’s love in the local assembly, Phil 2:2

Phil 2:2 make my happiness complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

Keeping doctrine is the only way to love with God’s love, 1Jo 2:5.

“perfected” is the perf-pass-ind, teleioo which means to complete or to reach maturity. It also means to come to the place where it can be released.

Loving God is also revealed with impersonal love toward one another, 1Jo 4:7.

“knows God” is the pres-act-imp of ginosko and the present tense means the more we love reveals the more we are progressively getting to know Him.

Since God is invisible and the object of category one love, we must see and love Him through doctrine in the soul.

You cannot love God unless you know God, and you cannot know God unless you have metabolized enough pertinent doctrine, 1Pe 1:8, Eph 3:18 19, Heb 6:10, 2Ti 1:13-14, Col 3:1-2.

1Pe 1:8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe Him [His doctrine,

Jer 3:15 “I will give you pastors after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding.

Jer 23:4 “I shall also raise up pastors over them and they will feed them; and they will not be afraid any longer, nor be terrified, nor will any be missing,” declares the Lord.

Category one love also sets up the standard for grace, Psa 119:132, Turn to me and be gracious to me, After Thy manner with those who love Thy name.

Category one love is also the basis for supergrace blessing, 1Co 2:9, Ps 37:4-5.
1Co 2:9 but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Psa 37:4-5, Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

Category one love is the basis for personal and national blessing, Deut 30:15-20.
Category one love motivates combat courage and military victory, Jos 23:10-11.

Jos 23:10-11; “One of your men puts to flight a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, just as He promised you. “So take diligent heed to yourselves to love the Lord your God.

Category one love provides strength for adversity and pressure, Heb 11:27; Heb 11:27 By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Moses left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen.

This is why there is a special curse on believers who fail to have category one love in 1Co 16:22, they are said to be “cursed until the Lord comes.”

1Co 16:22 If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be accursed. Maranatha.

Even witnessing must be motivated by category one love, 2Co 5:14 “The love of Christ motivates us.”

Rom 8:28 gives us the answer “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him,

And, there is no love for God until there is an X amount of metabolized doctrine.
Love toward God then becomes a major issue.

Not love for people but as we will see love for God.
Rom 12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.

prin-When you start to love someone you have not seen, it’s because you have linked up with their thinking.

The pres-act-part of pisteuo which is pisteuontes which refers to believing doctrine or having it metabolized.

Answer: Bible doctrine, you believe the word of God!

“full of glory” is a reference to the spiritually sustained believer who reflects the glory of God with the structure in his soul.

How can you ever assume that loving God the Father, loving God the Son under occupation with Christ, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit be set aside for a lot of nonsense called “Christian fellowship” or social life with Christians?

Prepare yourself for learning the Word of God!

Before we begin, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (that is; you have believed [trusted] in Him for His promised gift of eternal life), it is important to prepare yourself to learn God's Word so take a moment to name, cite or acknowledge (confess) your sins privately to God (i.e.; with your thoughts directed only to God the Father).

1 John 1:9 says: "If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins (known sins) and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness [unknown or forgotten sins]." NKJV (New King James Version) [italics added]; we call this REBOUND, read the full doctrine as to “why” we need to use 1 John 1:9 to grow spiritually. REBOUND

If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God, the promised Messiah, as your Savior (that is, believed in Him for eternal life), the issue for you is not to name your sins; the issue for you is to simply exercise faith alone in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life; when you do, you will instantly receive Eternal Life: John 3:16, 5:24, 6:47, 20:30, 31.

John 6:47 says: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life." NKJV [italics added]

Notice again what Jesus said in John 6:47: "…he who believes in Me (Jesus Christ) has everlasting life." It doesn't say, "will have"; it says, "has." Therefore, the very moment you believe in Jesus Christ for His promise of everlasting life, you have it (it's really just that simple; nothing more and nothing less), and it can never be taken away from you (John 10:28-29). Furthermore, the gift (Ephesians 2:8c) of everlasting life (also called eternal life in scripture) is available to every human being; there are absolutely no exceptions.

John 3:14-15, 16, 17, 18, says: "14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." NKJV

Let us now bow our hearts and take a moment to prepare for worship and learning God's Word. If there is any known sin in your life, this is the time to just cite it privately to God the Father with your thoughts directed towards Him. With your head bowed and your eyes closed, you have total privacy in your mind and soul:

The Tree of Life is a weekly teaching summary:

STUDY TITLE:

Satan and his kingdom of darkness promotes worry as a mental attitude sin.

Satan and his kingdom of darkness promotes worry as a mental attitude sin.

In Rev 9, Abaddon breaks out of this jail with the help of Satan who at that time has been cast out of heaven and can never return there again. Let me show you some of his fantastic power and the type of enemies we have to deal with when it comes to spiritual warfare.

First of all, Satan and his kingdom of darkness promotes worry as a mental attitude sin which is self-induced and therefore filled with soulish torment or anxiety regarding anything in life.

Notice I said it is self-induced.

That is why in Rev 9:1, we read And the fifth angel [this is Seraph angel or a sixth winged angel] sounded [his trumpet], and I saw a star from heaven [the star is a reference to Satan who had fallen to the earth in the middle of the Tribulation period] which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit [that’s the compartment known as the abyss, the lowest place on the earth] was given to him.

This is why we are told in Phi 4:6, Stop worrying about anything, but in every circumstance through prayer and through supplication for personal needs after thanksgivings let your requests or petitions be revealed to the God.

Rev 9:2, And he [Satan] opened the abyss; and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the atmosphere became darkened by the smoke of the pit.

This is why during the Tribulation period we are told that adversity is inevitable, but stress is optional. Now, just before God the Father throws Satan down to the earth in the middle of the Tribulation period, he gives Satan the key and the power and authority to release the first demon assault army. These demons actually have the power and the ability to be visible to man.

Other demons do not have this power or ability. These demons are going to be visible and they are going to look like men.

This is why we are told worry always anticipates the worst, and so becomes anticipation of danger, misfortune, trouble, or uncertainty. For the first time in human history since Gen 6, fallen angels will actually be available…and so Greek Mythology will have their so-called gods on earth again.

Satan is permitted to release his first demon assault army and they will torture their targets for five months. So intense and excruciating is the pain they inflict on believers in the cosmic system and unbelievers, that both believers and unbelievers are going to try to commit suicide but will not be permitted to do so.

Death will elude them! This is why we are told worry is a state of restlessness and agitation, producing mental disturbance, uneasiness, anxiety, and painful uncertainty. And so the opening is the entrance and the exit for the great underworld prison known as the abyss.

Rev 9:2, And he [Satan] opened or unlocked the abyss; and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air or the atmosphere became darkened by the smoke of the pit.

During this time worry will short circuit the function of the faith-rest technique and causes the believer to be pinned down in no man’s land.

Now, in verse 3 we have the description of the demon army.

Rev 9:3, And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

The Bible must be interpreted in the time that it was written and these were not scorpions nor were they locusts, these are analogous. The function of the locust on the one hand and the function of the scorpion on the other hand are the best ways in which in the ancient world it is possible to describe the function of the first demon assault army.

If you retreat, you do not go back to your previous stage of spiritual growt¬h, you’re out of fellowship, you’re out of the PPOG, you go back to reversionism or no man’s land.

Once you get out into no man’s land, either you go forward and take the objective or you retreat into reversionism, as we have used the phrase in the past, you crash and burn. Worry then causes the believer to be pinned down in no man’s land, and to be pinned down in no man’s land means to become a casualty for backsliding.

Prov 14:14, The backslider in heart will have his fill of his own ways, But a good man will {be satisfied} with his.

In Jer 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings [apostasies or faithlessness] shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Jer 3:12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger forever.

Jer 3:14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

Jer 3:22 Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.

Hos 14:4 I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.

Back in Rev 9:3, And out of the smoke came forth locusts

The word for locusts is akrides used for an army of destruction. So using a locust plague as an analogy for an overrunning army is used several times in the Bible and therefore it becomes the basis for helping us to understand the passage. the locust is always used as invading armies when used as an analogy. Locust invade the land and destroy crops therefore they are analogous here to the demon army which invades planet earth from the Abyss.

So, worry is a destroyer of the soul. If unchecked, it results in mental illness. You get a warning first, often with a physical problem. Worry in the mind causes shock to the body;

Prov 12:25, Anxiety in the heart of a man weighs it down, but a good word makes it glad.

Worry is a satanic device to lead the believer into reversionism and the sin unto death, Eze 4:15-17. Worry is a great weapon in the hands of Satan because the forces of evil take over the soul as a result of worry. Worry makes you vulnerable to the enemies especially attack in no man’s land.

More sacrifices of your time, talent, treasure, is given from the exercising of your spiritual gift in no man’s land; Therefore, there are more subtle attacks made against you to try and cause you to doubt the laying down of your life to serve and honor God. Bad news causes worry, Jer 49:23ff.

Worry causes hysteria, Luk 10:41, But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;”

Everyone has an area in which they are prone to worry. People cause worry. People are always worried about other people. Worriers have to have an object, 1Sa 10:2.

Economic disaster is a cause of worry, Jer 42:16.

Sin causes worry. People worry about sin which causes guilt, Psa 38:18. Worry is a sin, Rom 14:23b.

Therefore, we are ordered to stop worrying, Luk 12:29, “And do not seek what you shall eat, and what you shall drink, and do not keep worrying.”

Worry distracts from doctrinal teaching, Matt 13:22; Luk 8:14. Therefore, blessing from God includes freedom from worry,Jer 17:7-8. So these demons are incarcerated and they are in solitary confinement, but as soon as Satan opens that shaft they form up in ranks and get ready to attack.

Now, there’s one difference between the literal locust and the demon locust army.

The literal locust is described in Prov 30:27, The locusts have no king, Yet all of them go out in ranks;

However, this locust army has a king over them and they still function in ranks and that king is a part of the first group of fallen angels that we are told are our true enemies. Real locusts are known for laying waste to countryside’s all over the world. In the evening, they descend from their flight and they form an organized bivouac or a camp. In the morning, they assemble again and if they do not find a place to feed they fly in the direction of the wind. They travel in large number and they usually occupy a space of about 12 miles long by five miles wide, about 60 square miles of space is the normal space used for an invading locust army. When they travel they convert day into night.

Whenever the locust form up and go into the air, their wings make an awesome sound and they literally darken the sky around them. Nothing can stop the locust. They will fill ditches dug to stop them but can’t. They will fill them with their bodies. They will smother fires which are lit to burn them. They pass through the walls, under doors and windows. In other words, they provide an excellent analogy for this invading demon army. Nothing is going to stop this demon army at the time of this invasion. For the first time in history, beginning in the middle of the Tribulation, demons are permitted to attack men. They are permitted to torture and later on to kill, as we will see.

In Rev 9:3, And out of the smoke came forth locusts [the demon army from the Abyss] upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

Scorpions is the noun skorpioi which belongs to the spider family and is usually 5 or 6 inches long and has a poisonous sting in its tail. Some people die from the venom that is released from the scorpion and very often they are in extreme pain from the sting. The sting is followed by a very sharp pain and then local swelling and numbness. And many times the victim experiences sharp pain, numbness, Speech becomes very difficult. Saliva is discharged.

The victim becomes restless and breathing becomes difficult and that’s just the beginning.

The point being that the scorpion sting is a very painful thing and it is used in the analogy to torture here. Now, believe or not, this is all a manifestation of the grace of God. This is warning before judgment! Grace precedes judgment! You have to understand that this is God’s last appeal to the believer to get out of the cosmic system and to the unbeliever to become born again and saved. There is never a judgment which destroys a segment of the human race until first of all that segment of the human race has an opportunity to repent.

For the unbeliever, repentance means salvation. For the believer, repentance means a change of mind toward doctrine. We have illustrations such as Noah and the flood. Noah preached for 120 years before the flood came. Over a period of 120 years Noah taught gospel information….it was grace before judgment. As an evangelist, Noah was excellent. As an evangelist, he was eloquent. However, the negative volition was almost universal and the human race was reduced to just a few people.

The point is that God is going to use the wrath of angels to praise Him just like He uses the wrath of man to praise Him.

Psa 76:10, For the wrath of man shall praise Thee”

Now, in verses 4 and 5 we do have a divine restriction placed upon the demon invasion.

They are going to be restricted as to what they can do to their target which is going to be made up of people who live in the cosmic system, believers and unbelievers of the Tribulation. The first demon army is restricted, the second is not!

Rev 9:4, And they were told or commanded that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

This first demon army is going to have restraint and it’s going to torture people so badly that they will try to commit suicide. But there’s an alternative to trying to commit suicide and that is to accept Christ as your personal Savior…..or in the case of believers to rebound and get out of the cosmic system. And five months of torture ought to be enough motivation for anyone.

And we are going to see some very strange things about how pain can serve as a motivation but also in some cases pain make a person a lot worse. Pain and suffering and adversity it either makes us worse or better but it never leaves us the same.

When you have a problem, a difficulty, a disaster, you are never going to be the same, you are going to come out of it worse or better…but you will never be the same person you were before.

You make look the same but you’re not. And the wonderful thing about disaster and adversity and pain and difficulty and problems is that it gives us a fantastic opportunity for improvement. Some believers under disaster are motivated to improve, they rebound and get cracking again.

Others turn very bitter and very sour and eventually they get locked into the evil and the arrogance of the cosmic system.

In fact, when the Bible says in Heb 9:27, It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.” I believe, and this is a personal opinion even though I believe I can back it up with Scripture, that thousands of years after members of the human race are suffering in the lake of fire that if they were offered to believe on TLJC and trust in Him as their Lord Savior, I believe they would still reject Him. And there’s some reasons for that: One is the fact that the more some people suffer, the more bitter and arrogant and hateful and resentful they become. Secondly, look at Satan and the fallen angels, they still rebel against God even after they were given a second trial. Thirdly, when Satan is put in prison for a thousand years the first thing he does when he gets out of prison is start a human revolt against God.

Then the Bible teaches that the sin nature gets more and more corrupt as it gets older in Eph 4:22, and all of those in the lake of fire have their old sin nature. Also look at Rev 22:11-15, “Let the one who does wrong, still the word still means further do wrong; and let the one who is filthy, still or further be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and let the one who is holy, still keep himself holy. Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Blessed are those who wash their robes [rebound], that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.”

The word loves is in the present tense meaning that they still do love and practice lying. So back in Rev 9:4, what we have here is the motivation concept.

Rev 9:4, And they were told or commanded that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

This first demon army is prohibited from destroying vegetation. Apparently, the demon army can be destructive not only with people but with things. And why would they want to destroy the grass or vegetation or the trees?

This is why, Col 1:16, For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities– all things have been created by Him and for Him.

They hate Him! They despise Him! And everything around reminds them of Him!

Satan’s servants hate anything that reminds them of Him, TLJC.

Rev 9:4, And they were commanded that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree,

So there are two mandates on this demon army, first, they can’t destroy vegetation. In addition to that they are not permitted to kill their targets, torture only. The reason why they are given these restrictions is because an angel or a demon can kill a human being very easily!

While demons can perform extra-natural and super-natural acts in the environment of planet earth, they cannot control anything in planet apart from divine permission. Divine permission is only given where it involves the perpetuation of the angelic conflict in human history. Remember the principle 1Jo 4:4, “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”

Rev 9:4, And they were commanded that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only or it should be translated except

There are certain people that can be attacked. You can’t attack the grass of the earth or any green thing or any tree but you can attack certain individuals.

The environmentalists would love this verse.

Rev 9:4, And they were commanded that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, except the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

They can attack humans but there’s a certain group they can’t attack. Those who have the seal of God are those who became saved after the Rapture and during this Tribulation period. In fact, who are they who have the seal of God?

Is it every believer alive?

No!

Only a certain group of believers have the seal of God.

Who?

Rev 7:1-4, After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind should blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads. And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:”

The ones that are sealed are not called believers but those believers who are bond-servants of God. The word bond-servants is doulos which means those believers who are slaves or servants to God. It speaks of those believers who carry out the will and the purpose of God. There are certain Tribulation believers who will survive the Tribulation with all of its horrors and historical adversity.

These certain Tribulational believers are fulfilling certain principles of spiritual advance that keep that keep them out of the cosmic system. Remember again, the target is believers and unbelievers in the cosmic system but there is no permission to attack believers. For example, today you cannot be attacked if your inside the PPOG for your life. Inside the PPOG there is a wall of fire…..inside the cosmic system there is no wall of fire for the believer.

Whatever the plan of God is for the Tribulational saints, their objective is growing in grace and staying out of the cosmic system…because demons are going to be permitted to do things in the Tribulation that they have never been permitted to do before in all of human history. Therefore, to avoid being mugged by a demon, you have to stay out of the cosmic system in the Tribulation.

So, there will be thousands of believers who will not be attacked and who will be protected under the principle of the wall of fire.

However, many believers are going to be tortured and later on killed by demons simply because they live in the cosmic system.

The Doctrine of War. Part 6.
The conclusion of the military and divine establishment.

The importance of the military and preparation for war, both in the natural realm and in the spiritual.

Luk 14:31, “What king or ruler of a nation, when he advances to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and take counsel whether he is strong enough with 10,000 men to attack the one coming against him with 20,000 men?.”

Psa 138:2 I will bow down toward Thy holy temple, And give thanks to Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and Thy truth; For Thou hast magnified Thy word according to all Thy name.

James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

Zec 2:5 describes that wall of fire when the Lord said, “For I, declares the Lord, will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.”

We also noted some of the winner soldiers from the Old testament as in Heb 11:7, Noah was an individual who operated as a believer for the crisis in spite of the mocking and rejection which he had to face.

Heb 11:7 By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the deliverance of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

We are told that Noah was a man who walked with God in the midst of evil surroundings, Gen 6:8-12.

Heb 11:31 By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies in peace.

The leadership of this woman who is called a harlot illustrates that even in a wicked environment a wicked individual could find grace by turning to the Lord and she also spared her family from the crisis!

Her people were hopelessly depraved and yet one whore, who became a believer, brought blessing upon her entire household, Jos 6:25.
Matt 13:58 And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Note that phrase “be sure your sin will find you out.”…..= The sin here is not going to war and being a draft dodger.

In 1Ch 5:18 22. Just warfare is always from the Lord.

In Jos 11:23 teaches that victory in war means the perpetuation of peace for a certain time.

Jos 11:23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses, and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. Thus the land had rest from war.

Psa 46:7-9 Teaches that “He makes wars to cease” through military victory.

God destroys nations who seek to conquer other nations, as in Dan 2:44, 4:17.

Dan 2:44 “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever.”

Psa 68:30 Rebuke the beasts in the reeds, (in Egypt) the herd of bulls (their leaders) with the calves of the peoples, trampling underfoot the pieces of silver; He has scattered the peoples who delight in war.

God delivers from nations who talk peace but mean war, Psa 140:1 2; Jer 6:13 14, 8:11.

Psa 140:1-2 Rescue me, o lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who devise evil things in {their} hearts; they continually stir up wars. Why nations start wars, Jer 6:13 14.

Jer 6:13 “For from the least of them even to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for gain, and from the prophet even to the priest everyone manufactures lies.

Jer 6:14 “And they have healed the brokenness of my people superficially, saying, ‘peace, peace,’ but there is no peace.

The mature believer is courageous in battle and puts to flight the invading armies, Heb 11:33 34.

Psa 27:3 Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war arise against me, in {spite of} this I shall be confident. Job 5:20 “In famine He will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.

He understands and uses self and group discipline, has a relaxed mental attitude, common sense, a sense of responsibility, understanding of strategy and tactics.

Warfare is also a means of discipline, Jud 5:8; 2Ch 16:6-9.

Jdg 5:8 “New gods were chosen; then war {was} in the gates. Not a shield or a spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel.

STUDY TITLE:

Who Christian soldiers really wrestle against. Part 2.

Who Christian soldiers really wrestle against. Part 2.

Eph 6:12, For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

It’s interesting but the schemes of the devil is Satan attacking both the grace of God and the judicial decisions of God.

The noun pale which means warfare or wrestling, not struggling as we know it but warfare. And the definite article identifies this as the warfare or the spiritual warfare and the good fight of faith which we are called to fight and to endure.

1Ti 1:18, This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may fight the good fight,

2Ti 4:7, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;

The definite article also distinguishes this spiritual warfare from all other types of combat. This word pale also means to be stuck together which is decided when the victor is able to hold his opponent down with his hand upon his neck and it is sticky because it is gluey. This doesn’t mean that we have physical contact with the devil and his demons, it is simply showing the closeness of the battle.

The demon Table of Organization and Equipment is made up of four different categories. We must understand these categories because it has a great deal to do with the Christian way of life. It has a great deal to do with what we can do and what we cannot do as believers. God has given us fantastic power for offensive action. God has also provided fantastic equipment for defensive action. However, we are going to see the fantastic power and authority that Satan has and the vital reason why we are given a greater power from God, 1Jo 4:4.

So the military has a phrase which is called the TOE which means a Table of Organization and Equipment. And God the Holy Spirit has seen fit to give us a list of Satan’s TOE, Satan’s military table of organization and equipment. There are four categories listed next.

Now, remember some of your warfare will be with human beings but even so, if you use the problem solving devices and the virtue that comes from divine righteousness, you can turn the curse into a blessing.

Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not against blood [people’s souls] and flesh [their old sin nature], but against the rulers,

The word against is pros, meaning that the enemy which we are face to face with is about to be defined. And each category of the demon table of organization is introduced with this preposition pros plus the definite article tas to tell us what we are really against. Each one of these prepositional phrases implies the idea of disadvantage, opposition, and a hostile relationship. Therefore in this Greek idiom, pros is translated against.

We will note that our spiritual warfare is against:

The rulers = the highest ranking demons in Satan’s organization, such as Abaddon or Apollyon and Beelzubul or Beelzebub. This group alone should motivate you to learn about the armor of God and use it. They have tremendous power and we need the armor of God to handle their power and deception.

The powers = refers to demon officers who have phenomenal authority. They are extremely well-trained and under one of the greatest systems of leadership and organizations that has ever existed among creatures. This is why 1Co 14:40 says, “But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner.” Because Satan is so well organized it is extremely important that we are as well or he will take advantage of our sloppiness and disorganization.

The world forces of this darkness = the world rulers which refers to Satan’s demon ambassadors who control many of the rulers of this world. These world rulers are invisible and they carry out Satan’s objectives and they influence human beings in positions of rulership.

Whatever our warfare or combat is, there is something that it is not, it is against flesh and blood. One of the easiest ways for a believer to fail in spiritual warfare is to get their eyes on flesh and blood or people. This means that they blame people for their problems. They become bitter and angry with people. They become vindictive and revengeful. They don’t want reconciliation or restoration which is the desire of God. The point is that Satan and his kingdom of darkness loves to destroy the believer’s focus. Satan loves you to get your eyes on people,

Jer 17:5-12, Thus says the Lord, “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the Lord.” Thus says the Lord, Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the Lord. For he will be like a bush in the desert And will not see when prosperity comes, But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, A land of salt without inhabitant. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord And whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit. The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds. As a partridge that hatches eggs which it has not laid, {So} is he who makes a fortune, but unjustly; In the midst of his days it will forsake him, And in the end he will be a fool. A glorious throne on high from the beginning Is the place of our sanctuary.

So, to get your eyes on people is to cause you to get angry and reactionary toward people when they let you down or when you think they are the ones that you’re battling with. Satan and his kingdom of darkness also causes you to get your eyes on self, 1Ki 19:10, 1Co 1:10-11.

1Co 1:10-12, Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree, and there be no divisions among you, but you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe’s people, that there are quarrels among you.

And when you do this, you are failing in the realm of spiritual warfare.

So back in Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood,

Now the word against is pros plus we have the accusative singular of relationship which expresses and idiom for opposition.

We have two nouns coming up. The first one in the Greek is haima which is the word for blood. In fact, it doesn’t say flesh and blood, it says blood and flesh. Everything in the word of God is important. The way that the words are arranged and the way the words are related.

So, blood is used first to emphasize people rather than their sin nature. Blood is mentioned first because you cannot function in the soul without the circulation of blood to those frontal lobes. The solution to all of the problems you face is found in the psuche, the Greek word for the soul. And that means the circulation of metabolized doctrine in the soul.

So blood comes first. Blood is what circulates through the body. Blood is what provides the oxygen. Blood is what provides the ability to think, so blood circulating is very important.

Then flesh is used, sarxz in the Greek for the old sin nature. The point here is that we are not in combat with people and their sin natures. There are times we do get on the offensive against people but never against Satan and his kingdom. So, we have blood before flesh because blood represents the concept of reaching the soul.

It is the soul that is saved.

Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not against blood [people’s souls] and flesh [their old sin nature],

This means that our spiritual combat or spiritual warfare is not against a visible enemy. We’re on the defensive against an invisible enemy. We are in a state of warfare, exposed to invisible enemies, and we are naturally unprepared for this warfare in our own strength. This is why we must be equipped from God’s armor, for no weapon of our own will be able to defend us.

The enemy we have to contend with bears an incurable hatred against us, and seeks nothing less than our destruction and overthrow. And that is because the Trinity lives inside of us and Satan hates the Trinity, especially the presence of TLJC. Satan and his kingdom of darkness is mightier than we are; and unless we have help from above, we are no match for him, he is an artful enemy, invisible and near us. What is worse, he has a contact or a strong agent within us, called our old sin nature.

All of this introduction should give you some idea as to the necessity of the spiritual armor God has made available, as well as the reason why you should be on the defensive and not the offensive. So we begin with the highest rank in the demon table of organization which is in the accusative plural from the noun arche.

Arche is taken from an ancient Greek word called archon and it refers to rulers, leaders, chiefs, those in position of high rank. We know of certain rulers that are actually found in Satan’s table of organization. For example, there is Abaddon or Appollyon, who is a demon king who is located in the abyss, Rev 9:11. The abyss is a part of Hades and what most people call Hell.

Abaddon is mentioned once in the New Testament and six times in the Old Testament. In Rev 9 Abaddon breaks out of this jail with the help of Satan who at that time has been cast out of heaven and can never return there again. Let me show you some of his fantastic power and the type of enemies we have to deal with when it comes to spiritual warfare.

Rev 9:1-2, And the fifth angel [this is Seraph angel or a six winged angel] sounded [his trumpet], and I saw a star from heaven [Satan] which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit [the abyss] was given to him. And he [Satan] opened the abyss; and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the atmosphere became darkened by the smoke of the pit.

Remember that demons who indwelt a man asked our Lord not to send them to this place called the abyss, it is the place of maximum security for criminal angels.

Luk 8:27, And when He had come out onto the land, He was met by a certain man from the city who was possessed with demons; and who had not put on any clothing for a long time, and was not living in a house, but in the tombs. And seeing Jesus, he cried out and fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, “What do I have to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me.” For He had been commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had seized him many times; and he was bound with chains and shackles and kept under guard; and {yet} he would burst his fetters and be driven by the demon into the desert. And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion”; for many demons had entered him.

These demons knew they had violated certain principles of the Angelic conflict and that they could be tossed into the abyss. Apparently at least 1000 demons indwelt this man, contrary to the rules of the angelic conflict.

The abyss which is the fourth compartment of Hades is the jail for certain demons who have been incarcerated there because they disobeyed the rules for the angelic conflict in human history. It is translated the bottomless pit and the abyss in the book of Revelation. The abyss, at the present, is the barracks for the first demon assault army under the command of Abaddon (Hebrew) or Apollyon (Greek). This first demon assault army will invade the earth during the Tribulation period, Rev 9:1-12.

They are released from their prison to become part of the administration of punishment to cosmic believers and unbelievers. And at that time, the invisible angelic conflict will become visible. These events indicate a tremendous and radical change in God’s plan after the Rapture of the Church occurs. When Satan is cast down to the earth, he is going to be permitted to release his three hard-core demon armies. And they will attack human beings physically.

The Doctrine of War. Part 5.
The importance of the military and divine establishment.

Luke 14:31 teaches that every nation should have a core of professional military officers and non-commissioned officers who plan and prepare for war.

True motivation for military training comes from God Himself.

There are those believers who advance and are always ready in time of crisis who are either mature believers or positive believers on the verge of reaching maturity.

War and disaster gives the believer for the crisis opportunity to apply doctrine and demonstrate its power in life.

Believers for the crisis keep on plugging and are persistent.

It’s one thing to let sinful things distract you but it’s more respectable to let legitimate things distract you!

The great priority battle of life is one of the most vital battles we ever fight.

And that’s the basic principle behind the statement in Exo 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.”

Psa 138:2 I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. (NIV)

Psa 138:2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name. (NKJ)

Psa 138:2 I bow down toward thy holy temple and give thanks to thy name for thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness; for thou hast exalted above everything thy name and thy word. (RSV)

Psa 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, And give thanks unto thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. (ASV)

James 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

Since TLJC is not on earth, doctrine resident in the soul is the only strength for the believer prepared for the crisis.

Zec 2:5 describes that wall of fire when the Lord said, “For I, declares the Lord, will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.”

The key for the believer for the crisis is the ability to persevere and handle abnormal pressure and unusual circumstances.

The believer who perseveres, either through thought, speech, action, or a combination thereof, “leads” and dominates in a disaster.

There are three ways in which a believer who perseveres can meet disaster: through thought, speech, and or action.

The believer for the crisis, through these three systems, dominates in disaster, so that people involved in the disaster are delivered, encouraged, changed, or in some other way profited from the disaster.

Rom 15:4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

In Gen 6:14, 22, 7:5, Noah was assigned an unbelievable difficult task, the building of the Ark, however, he handled it magnificently in spite of the mocking and the jeering which took place!

He even warned his neighbors of the approaching judgment in 2Pe 2:5, even though they made fun of him and laughed and joked about that which he believed.

In Heb 11:31, Rahab was a believer for the crisis!

The leadership of this woman who is called a harlot illustrates that even in a wicked environment a wicked individual could find grace by turning to the Lord!

This harlot also became the ancestress of David and therefore in the messianic line, according to Ruth 4:21-22, Matt 1:5-6, Luk 3:31-32.

It’s also very interesting and a great honor that the generation after Moses does not mention anyone by name in this roster of Heb 11, except one.

Joshua is not mentioned…
Caleb is not mentioned…
The only one mentioned in that generation is a Gentile woman whose name is Rahab!

In Heb 11:31 she is called “the harlot Rahab”, in the Greek it is “Raabh he’porne” = the Greek word for whore or prostitute.

She was one of those believers who went from zero to spiritual maturity very rapidly!

She also had a hotel and a rope manufacturing business and then she heard about the crossing of the Red Sea and the Exodus of the Jews.

Matt 13:58 And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Note that phrase “be sure your sin will find you out.”…..= The sin here is not going to war and being a draft dodger.

In 1Ch 5:19-22. Just warfare is always from the Lord.

1Ch 5:19 And they made war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.

1Ch 5:20 and they were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all who {were} with them were given into their hand; for they cried out to God in the battle, and he was entreated for them, because they trusted in Him.

1Ch 5:21 and they took away their cattle: their 50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, 2,000 donkeys, and 100,000 men.

1Ch 5:22 For many fell slain, because the war {was} of God. And they settled in their place until the exile.

Josh 11:23 teaches that victory in war means the perpetuation of peace for a certain time.

Jos 11:23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses, and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. thus the land had rest from war.

In fact Psa 46:7-9 Teaches that “He makes wars to cease” through military victory.

Study to show yourself approved to God!

STUDY TITLE:

Who Christian soldiers really wrestle against.

Who Christian soldiers really wrestle against.

Eph 6:10-11, Finally, [or from now on], be strong or start becoming strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Pick and put on the full armor from God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

The schemes of the devil is Satan attacking both the grace of God and the judicial decisions of God. So the very fact that we are told to clothe ourselves in the armor, and that we have to put on each piece, and we are told how to use each piece, reveals that every one of us is engaged in this battle. And the first thing we have to learn as Christians is how to fight the good fight of faith. We are in it, we can never get out of it, and therefore it is very important that we know exactly what to do. We may go AWOL but even going AWOL is not getting out of the battle, it is merely being captured by the enemy.

In talking about being strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, the apostle is dealing with the question of building us up, and making us strong and capable and ready to do everything we have to do in this great fight. That is positive. But in this matter of the armor the outlook is somewhat more negative.

You are waiting for something to happen to you. Or, it is the difference between the offensive and the defensive. The strength and the power of His might is an offensive characteristic, but the armor is concerned with our protection, and the defensive side of our struggling and wrestling with the devil and the principalities and powers. And it is not surprising that the apostle uses this order.

The positive should come before the negative. In other words, if you enter into this spiritual conflict on the defensive only, and have ignored and forgotten the offensive and the positive, you are already defeated. And this is how Satan and the kingdom of darkness defeats believers who even have doctrine. They get so wrapped up in the satanic attack that they begin to worry, live in fear, anger or bitterness and forget about verse 10,

Eph 6:10, Be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might.

And there is another reason why it is quite inevitable that the first exhortation should come before the second. It is simply that none of us could possibly use this armor if we had not first been given the strength. You need to be strong in order to use the armor. If you clothe the spiritual weakling in this kind of armor, it will make him helpless and useless. He will have to use so much of his energy in trying to handle and to move inside the armor, that he will not have energy left to deal with the enemy. In other words, this armor is of such a character that you have to be capable of using it.

Note that the apostle Paul, having told us to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might, goes on to say twice for emphasis.

Eph 6:11, Put on the full armor of God,

Eph 6:13, Therefore, take up the full armor of God,

And the reason for his exhortation is that we need protection. The strength in verse 10 is not sufficient, we still need the protection which is provided by this armor. In other words we have to realize that as long as we are in this world, defense against the subtle attacks of the enemy is a constant necessity never to be neglected. Though we may be very strong, though we may have grown in grace marvelously, and have had great victories, we must never rely upon that strength and growth. We must never rest upon it. We must never assume we are beyond reach of the enemy.

The enemy that is forever confronting us never admits defeat and is always watching and waiting for our unguarded moments. He never relaxes, and he commands great powers, such as the rulers of the darkness of this world, the spiritual wickedness even in the heavenly places. The devil himself is aggressive and his ambassadors are everywhere and always watching for a moment of slackness when a believer with PVTD is off guard.

Our enemy is not only powerful but also subtle. As we have seen, his methods and the variety of his weapons are such that we cannot afford to take anything for granted. Whatever we have to do, though we may feel ourselves to be equipped with divine power, let us be very careful. He always knows the Achilles’ heel, the point of weakness.

That’s why Peter said in 1Pe 5:8, Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Therefore, though we may have great strength and power, the apostle reminds us that this defensive armor is always an absolute necessity. This is the key to the whole situation. Nothing but the armor of God will ever serve us in this conflict in which we are engaged.

There is no protection, there is nothing we can do, that will ultimately protect us against this deceptive, subtle, powerful enemy but the armor of God. And the great thing is that we are not left to our own resources and devices.

So concerning the Christian armor let’s note the following points:

1. It is armor for every part except the back which is provided with no defenses to show that the Christian is never to quit but to keep on going by means of the Spirit in spite of the pressure from the enemy. Defensive action does not mean that you are not fighting, it simply means that you are holding your ground or standing firm.

Heb 10:35-39, Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay. But My righteous one shall live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.

2. The armor is for both offensive and defensive action which means to protect the believer and to aggravate his enemies. If there is anything that aggravates the enemy, it is to ignore their attack. Arrogant people and arrogant creatures hate to be ignored. However, remember that you must know when it’s time to get on the offensive and when it’s time for the defensive.

3. It is also armor that has been proven. Our Lord Jesus Christ used this armor to defeat Satan and his entire kingdom. And the saints have used this armor throughout the years to handle spiritual warfare.

4. This armor is spiritual, and is intended only for spiritual purposes. It is called “the armor of light (Rom 3:12),” in reference to the bright and glittering army of the Romans, and to show that it is for “ornament” as well as for defense. And that means that when you observe someone operating in the armor of God, it is an ornament or a decoration of the character and nature of God.

So we are now ready for Eph 6:12.

Eph 6:12, For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

The word ‘for’ is the subordinating conjunction “hoti” which could also be translated because.\

Why are we to put on the full armor of God? Why are we to hold our ground against the strategies of the devil?

Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood,

You may think that it is because you live by sight, but ultimately it is not.

Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood,

Next we have a nominative singular subject in the Greek made up of two words: the first is the definite article he and the second is the noun pale which means warfare, not struggling as we know it but warfare. The definite article identifies this as “the warfare” or “the spiritual warfare” and the good fight of faith which we are called to fight and to endure. The definite article also distinguishes this spiritual warfare from all other types of combat in life. This word also means a contest between two in which each endeavors to throw the other, and which is decided when the victor is able to hold his opponent down with his hand upon his neck. And this doesn’t mean that we have physical contact with the devil and his demons, it is simply showing the closeness of the battle.

This word is known as a hapax legomena which is a word that occurs only once in the New Testament. Pale does not exist in any other part of the New Testament. Therefore, what does this word mean?

This is a word used from the time of Homer which refers not just to combat in a wrestling match, a very unique wrestling match which was really combat. And when you consider that the loser in the Greek wrestling contest had his eyes gouged out with resulting blindness for the rest of his life…we can form some conclusion as to what happens in spiritual warfare when believers fail. They become spiritually blind and defeated.

The result is; Emotional revolt of the soul. Blackout of the soul. Scar tissue of the soul.

So this word refers to a spiritual warfare or spiritual combat.

Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not

“is not” is the pres-act-ind of the verb eimi which is estin and with this we have the negative ouk which means that our warfare keeps on being not against flesh and blood. Whatever our warfare or combat is, there is something that it is not…and that is against flesh and blood.

Prin – One of the easiest ways for a believer to fail in spiritual warfare is to get their eyes on flesh and blood or people. And this means that they blame people for their problems. They become bitter and angry with people. They become vindictive and revengeful. They don’t want reconciliation or restoration which is the desire of God. The point is that Satan and his kingdom of darkness loves to destroy the believer’s focus. He loves you to get your eyes on people, Jer 17:5.

Why?

Jer 17:5, Thus says the Lord, “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the Lord.”

To get your eyes on people is to cause you to get angry and reactionary toward people when they let you down or when you think they are the ones that you’re battling with. Satan and his kingdom of darkness also causes you to get your eyes on self, 1Ki 19:10, 1Co 1:10-11.

1Co 1:10-11, Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree, and there be no divisions among you, but you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe’s people, that there are quarrels among you.

When you do this, you are failing in the realm of spiritual warfare

So back in Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
Now the word against is pros plus we have the accusative singular of relationship which expresses and idiom for opposition. We have two nouns coming up. The first one in the Greek is haima which is the word for blood. In fact, it doesn’t say flesh and blood, it says blood and flesh.

The second word is the Greek word sarxz which is translated flesh. Now, everything in the word of God is important. The way that the words are located…the way the words are related. Remember that “The word of God is alive and powerful” . And as Matt 5:18 teaches, not one dotting of an “i” or crossing of a “t” will pass away. Now blood is used first to emphasize people rather than their sin nature. Blood is mentioned first because you cannot function in the soul without the circulation of blood to those frontal lobes. And the solution to all of the problems you face is found in the psuche, the soul. And that means the circulation of metabolized doctrine in the soul. And so blood comes first.

Then flesh is used here, sarxz for the old sin nature. And the point here is that we are not in combat with people and their sin natures.

Prin – This means that our spiritual combat or spiritual warfare is not against a visible enemy.

We’re on the defensive against an invisible enemy. We are in a state of warfare, exposed to invisible enemies, and we are naturally unprepared for this warfare in our own strength. This is why we must be equipped from Gods’ armor, for no weapon of our own will be able to defend us. The enemy we have to contend with bears an incurable hatred against us, and seeks nothing less than our destruction and overthrow.

And that is because the Trinity lives inside of us and Satan hates the Trinity, especially TLJC.

Satan and his kingdom of darkness is mightier than we are; and unless we have help from above, we are no match for him. He is an artful enemy, invisible and near us. And what is worse, he has a contact or a strong agent within us, called our old sin nature.

So Eph 6:12, Because our struggle is not against blood [people’s souls] and flesh [their old sin nature], but against the rulers,
