Hymn #1

Hymn #2

Preparing yourself for the study of God’s Word

Before we begin, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (that is— you have trusted in Him for eternal life), it is important to prepare yourself to take-in God’s Word or participating in a Communion Service, so take a moment to name, cite or acknowledge your sins privately directly to God the Father. This will assure that you are in fellowship with God the Father and the Holy Spirit’s convicting ministry, also called the convincing ministry will then be able to teach you as the Holy Spirit is the real teacher and the pastor’s message is the vehicle the Holy Spirit uses to convince you what you are learning is true or not.

1 John 1:9, says—“If we confess [simply name, cite or acknowledge to God the Father] our sins [known sins], He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins [known sins] and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness [all unknown and forgotten sins];” NKJV (New King James Version); we call this REBOUND, read the full doctrine as to “why” we need to use 1 John 1:9 to grow spiritually. REBOUND

If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior (that is, believed in Him for eternal life), the issue for you is not to name your sins to God; the issue for you is to believe by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life and you will be saved the very second you believe in Him:

John 6:47 says: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” NKJV

Notice again what John 6:47 says, “he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” It doesn’t say, “will have”; it says, “has.” Therefore, the very moment you believe Jesus Christ’s promise of everlasting life, you have it (it’s really just that simple), and it can never be lost or taken away from you (John 10:28-29). Furthermore, the gift of everlasting life (also called eternal life in scripture) is available to every human being; there are absolutely no exceptions.

John 3:14-18 says: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” NKJV

Let us now bow our hearts and take a moment to prepare for learning God’s Word, if there is any known sin in your life, this is the time to just cite it privately to God the Father with your thoughts directed towards Him. With your head bowed and your eyes closed, you have total privacy in your mind and soul:

NOTES
Unlike the bible study, these notes are not just for reading without watching the video. These notes are more designed to follow along during the sermon and to bring up the “hover pop-up scripture references” (some websites may require to left click the link, if that doesn’t work then look them up in your Bible) when the Pastor asks everyone to turn to that passage in their bibles.

Sermon: The Deity of Christ and the Doctrine of the Hypostatic Union.

Point 2. The Deity of Christ and the doctrine of the Hypostatic Union.

When it says that He is the privileged-first-born, it doesn’t mean that He was born and that He didn’t always exist.

Isa 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”

This was of course fulfilled in Matt 1:20-23.

The deity or Christ always existed as taught in John 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

1. The first born had the privilege of rulership.

2. The second privilege was that the first-born in the Levitical tribe had the priesthood of the family.

3. The third privilege was heirship.

The rulership of Christ is discussed such passages like Col 1:18.

Col 1:18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the first born from the dead; so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything.

He is also the High Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, Heb 5:6 “Thou art a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”

Christ is also the Heir of all things, Heb 1:2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.

Heirship included the double portion and Christ has the double portion in eternity of both Israel and the Church.

He is also called the firstborn of every creature.

And the word creature is Ktiseos which means creature or the original creation including angels.

We do not know what type of redemption angels had but verses like this and Heb 2:2 seem to leave a door open for some eternal mystery concerning angelic redemption.

A genitive of reference which means Christ was the first born with reference to all created beings”, that’s the way Col 1:15 should be translated.

The passage doesn’t say he is the firstborn among creatures but the firstborn with reference to all creation or creatures.

The Williams translation says “Who existed before any created thing”

While this is dull to some academic to others and repetition for some, this happens to be the most vital information you could ever possess.

In eternity past, Jesus Christ had the same essence as the Father and Spirit.

You can begin by pointing out that in Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Who created the Heavens and the earth?

God did and yet what does Col 1:16 say? 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

John 1:3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

1Jo 2:22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

1Jo 2:23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.

A syllogism is a logical formula consisting of two premises and a conclusion, a major and minor premise plus a conclusion, derived from deductive reasoning.

Every virtue is admirable (major premise), kindness is a virtue (minor premise), therefore, kindness is admirable (conclusion).

Following this formula: the Trinity is eternal. Christ is a member of the Trinity. Therefore, Christ is eternal.

We have the omniscience of God the Father mentioned by the word foreknowledge.

We have the omnipotence of God the Holy Spirit sanctifying the believer.

And obedience to TLJC [The Lord Jesus Christ].

2Co 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

Matt 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

Isa 48:16 “Come near to Me; listen to this. From the first, I have not spoken in secret. From the time it took place, I was there.

And now the Lord God [God the Father] has sent Me [God the Son], and His Spirit [God the Holy Spirit].”

This same Hebrew word for eternity (olam) is used to affirm the eternal existence of the Father in many passages, Isa 40:28.

John 1:1 “In a beginning which was not a beginning there existed the Word [Jesus Christ].”

In Exo 3:13 Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I shall say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?”

Exo 3:14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”

“I am” in the Greek is “ego eimi” and it cannot be correctly rendered as anything except “I am.”

They translate “ego eimi” as “I am” in other verses in the same chapter as well as a host of other passages in the N.T., John 8:24, 28.

Our Lord used the same terminology that the Father used to describe Himself in Exodus 3:14 (Septuagint Version) – “ego eimi” – “I am.”

The Jews understood His use of “ego eimi” to be the same as when used by the Father, as evidenced by the fact that they sought to kill him when He said it.

Jehovah is the traditional translation of the Hebrew consonants JHWH – the special name for the one true God.

They replaced it by a variety of names – such as “Lord” or “the Name.”

From Exo 3:14, we know that JHWH was derived from the verb “to be” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.”

John 6:35 Jesus said “I am the bread of life;”

John 8:18 “I am He who bears witness of Myself”

John 10:7 “I am the door of the sheep.”

John 10:14 “I am the good shepherd”

John 11:25 “I am the resurrection and the life;”

John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life;

John 15:1 “I am the true vine”

Those are the ten I am’s of the Gospel of John and of course ten represents the number of completion of the divine order and TLJC was completely identifying Himself as the great I am!

Many people say that Jesus Christ never claimed to be God, is that true?

He said, “you have heard the blasphemy?”

There are many other roles or titles of Jehovah from the Old Testament used of, and by, Jesus, for example, the author of eternal law, light, rock, bridegroom, shepherd, forgiver of sins, redeemer, savior and judge.

But in Phil 2.10 Paul says “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

In John 5:18 For this cause therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

He was beginning to teach that the “unity” of God involved a true uniting of three “persons” in the Godhead or in the divine nature; and he was claiming to be one of them.

In Col 2:9 Paul writes “in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form.”

In Titus 2:13 Jesus Christ is called God Titus 2:13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus;

You will recall doubting Thomas who at first could not believe in the resurrection of Jesus.

“If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord [Jehovah], and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Question: Who is omnipotent (all powerful)?

The answer according to the Scriptures; God, 1Ch 29:11.

In Phil 3:21 Jesus Christ is all powerful, “He exerts the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”

Who is omniscient (all knowing)? 1Jo 3:20 God knows all things.

In Col 2:2-3, Jesus Christ has all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Who is Lord of Sabbath? Gen 2:3, God is!

Who is the great “I am”” Exo 3:14, God is!

John 8:58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”

Who is the only creator? Isa 44:24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, “I, the Lord, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself, And spreading out the earth all alone,”

In Col 1:16, we are told about TLJC For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities all things have been created by Him and for Him.

Who is the only Savior? Isa 43:11 “I, even I, am the Lord; And there is no savior besides Me.”

Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.”

Who will judge mankind? Jehovah! Isa 3:13 The Lord arises to contend, And stands to judge the people.

In 2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,

Who will judge between the sheep and goats? Eze 34:17 “And as for you, My flock, thus says the Lord God, ‘Behold, I will judge between one sheep and another, between the rams and the male goats.”

In Matt 25:31-34, TLJC will judge between the sheep and goats.

For example, Question: Who is omnipotent (all powerful)?
The answer according to the Scriptures; God, 1Ch 29:11.

In Phil 3:21 Jesus Christ is all powerful, “He exerts the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”

Who is omniscient (all knowing)? 1Jo 3:20 God knows all things.

In Col 2:2-3, Jesus Christ has all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Who is Lord of Sabbath? Gen 2:3, God is!

In Matt 12:8 “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

Who is the great “I am”” Exo 3:14, God is!
