Hymn #2

Preparing yourself for the study of God’s Word

Before we begin, only if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (that is; you have believed [trusted] in Him for His promised gift of eternal life) John 3:16, John 6:47 as a few examples; it is very important to prepare yourself to learn God's Word so the Holy Spirit can teach you as to what your reading or hearing is true or false. To be taught by the Holy Spirit you must be filled with the Holy Spirit which means abiding in Christ. To place yourself in fellowship with God the Holy Spirit [also called abiding in the Christ], take a moment to simply name, cite or acknowledge [confess] your known unconfessed sins privately to God (i.e.; with your thoughts directed only to God the Father). Why? Because you cannot grow spiritually if you’re not abiding in Christ [in fellowship with Him] when you take in bible truth.

1 John 1:9, says: “If we confess [meaning to simply name, cite or acknowledge to God the Father] our sins [known unconfessed sins], He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins [known sins] and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness [all unknown and forgotten sins];” NKJV (New King James Version); we call this REBOUND; read the full doctrine as to “why” we need to use 1 John 1:9 to grow spiritually. Left click the following link to learn more and fully understand the doctrine of Rebound; which answers the question, why do I need to keep confessing my sins all the time? REBOUND

If you have never personally believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior (that is, believed in Him for eternal life), the issue for you is not to name your sins to God; the issue for you is to believe by faith alone in Jesus, The Christ alone for eternal life [salvation] and you will be saved [receive Eternal Life] the very second you believe in Him:

John 6:47 says: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” NKJV

Notice again what John 6:47 says, “he who believes in Me [Jesus Christ] has everlasting life.” It doesn’t say, “will have”; it says, “has.” Therefore, the very moment you believe Jesus Christ’s promise of everlasting life, you have it (it’s really just that simple), and it can never be lost or taken away from you (John 10:28-29). Furthermore, the gift of everlasting life (also called eternal life in scripture) is available to every human being; there are absolutely no exceptions.

John 3:14-18 says: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness [Num 21:4-9], even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” NKJV

Let us now bow our hearts and take a moment to prepare for learning God’s Word, if there is any known sin in your life, this is the time to just cite it privately to God the Father with your thoughts directed towards Him. With your head bowed and your eyes closed, you have total privacy in your mind and soul:

NOTES

Unlike the bible study, these notes are not just for reading without watching the video. These notes are more designed to follow along during the sermon and to bring up the “hover pop-up scripture references;” if just hover doesn’t work, do a “control-left-click,” if that doesn’t work then look them up in your Bible) when the Pastor asks everyone to turn to that passage in their bibles.

The believer needs to answer the question: “After salvation, What do I do?”

John 15:1 = a reference to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ as undiminished deity and true humanity in one person forever, therefore, He said; “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.”

1. Jn 15:1 – ‎Vinedresser;

2. Jn 15:2 – Divine Pruning;

3. Jn 15:4 –Abiding in the Vine

4. Jn 15:9-10, Agape or impersonal love.

We have also noted some of the principles that exist concerning the Vine and the branches with a reminder of the fifteen “Great I am” passages.

(1) Jn 6:35 “I am the bread of life”

(2) Jn 8:12 “I am the light of the world”

(3) Jn 8:23 “You are from below; I am from above”

(4) Jn 8:24 “Unless you believe that I am”

(5) Jn 8:58 “Before Abraham was born, I am.”

(6) Jn 9:9 He kept saying, “I am the one.”

(7) Jn 10:7 “I am the door of the sheep.”

(8) Jn 10:11 “I am the good shepherd”

(9) Jn 10:36 “I am the Son of God”

(10) Jn 11:25 “I am the Resurrection and the Life”

(11) Jn 13:13 “You call Me Teacher and Lord; I am.”

(12) Jn 13:19 “You may believe that I am”

(13) Jn 14:6 “I am way, and the truth”

(14) Jn 14:10 “I am in the Father”

(15) Jn 15:1 “I am the true vine”

These passages reveal to us the importance of the Hypostatic Union and the unity that we should have as we understand the different functions of Divine Providence.

God appointed His Son to be the source of blessings to man; and that all grace descends through him; and that God takes care of all the branches of this vine who are united to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The vines that are mentioned are located along the hills of the Kidron Valley right outside of Jerusalem which are covered with grape vines, not by chance, but as a manifestation of Divine Providence and the Divine Timing of our Lord.

Notice this statement again; God gave His Son to be the source of blessings to all mankind, and that includes believers and unbelievers that all grace descends through him to them.

Analogy = the believer’s vital relationship and fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ and what those benefits are.

The focus of this vine analogy is to emphasize production in the spiritual life or what the Bible refers to as bearing fruit.

The hills along the Kidron Valley which are outside of Jerusalem are covered with grape vines and as the disciples left the upper room they walked along the hills that were covered with grape vines.

God created the grape vine because God created all living things to serve man including whenever He created the topography of Jerusalem, He also created the grapes of the Kidron Valley.

Even the grapes on the hills of the Kidron Valley are covered with grape vines, not by chance, but as a manifestation of Divine Providence and the Divine Timing of our Lord.

The Vine and the branches are located geographically by our Lord so that the grape vine would be used as a teaching aid, not by chance or a coincidence but by Divine Appointment.

God designed things as a part of Divine Providence so that this event would take place and our Lord would go by the grape vines and use them as an analogy of the believer’s relationship to Himself.

God created the grape vine in order to teach certain things about the Christian life and then the Christian’s relationship to God.

Another reason God created the sheep was so that He could utilize it as an analogy to teach certain things about the life of the believer.

One thing we learn about the vine is that the wood itself is useless.

You can take the wood of the vine and burn it to make heat but we cannot use it to make furniture or to make weapons.

Why? Because the wood itself is virtually useless. It is good for only one thing: producing fruit.

In the same way we could say that the believer was useless without Christ, but now, Christ resides in them and they will never be useless again.

The mature believer recognizes the fact that he is not good within himself, he is only good because of what Christ has done for him, and what He has supplied for him.

What the believer is designed for is two-fold, it is salvation for the unbeliever and it is living the spiritual life for the believer, also known as godliness or eusebeia; 1Ti 2:4.

1Ti 2:3-4; This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

First question = found in Mat 16:15-16, where our Lord said, “But who do you say that I am? Peter answered and said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Then after salvation, as mentioned many times throughout the years, the believer needs to answer the second question: “After salvation, What?”

You don’t plant the vine just for the enjoyment of its growth, the purpose is in the end result which is the production of fruit.

First mature plants produce fruit. Immature plants are to continue to grow.

The purpose of a plant is to produce fruit but it doesn’t produce fruit until it is mature.

Mature believer = it does not refer or even insinuate that believers reach spiritual maturity before they can produce fruit or receive blessings from the justice and the righteousness of God.

If only mature believers are the only ones who receive blessings from God then very few believers would ever be qualified for Divine blessings because very few believers ever reached spiritual maturity.

It means that the believer is mature or acting their age – they are at the place they should be when it comes to executing the PPOG [predesigned plan of God] and discovering one’s own personal sense of destiny.

One of the least well-known principles concerning the Vine and the branches and all the time it is maturing or growing, it has to be fed all the right nutrients under the right conditions.
